1. Agreement and Purpose

By accessing and utilizing filmnegativescanner.online ("the Service", "the Application"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. The Service is an open-access, client-side digital darkroom and optical sensitometry utility designed to assist photographers, archivists, and historians in inspecting, calibrating, and digitizing photographic film negatives.

2. Client-Side Processing and Data Privacy

The Service processes all photographic negatives, camera streams, and image files strictly within your local web browser memory using WebGL 2.0 fragment shaders and HTML5 Canvas APIs. At no point are your image pixels, raw video streams, EXIF metadata, or scanned archives transmitted to, stored on, or analyzed by our servers or any third-party cloud infrastructure.

You retain sole and exclusive copyright and ownership over all original photographs and converted digital positives produced using our utility.

3. Optical Equipment Recommendations & Affiliate Transparency

The Service provides objective technical evaluations of hardware scanners (e.g. Plustek OpticFilm 8200i, Epson Perfection V600), macro reproduction lenses, and 95+ CRI LED light pads. Some outgoing links may contain affiliate tracking codes.

4. Limitation of Liability and Physical Film Care

Analog photographic film is physically delicate and subject to scratching, dust adhesion, and chemical deterioration (including vinegar syndrome). The Service provides digital conversion tools and optical spacer calculation models, but does not provide physical handling or physical restoration services.

Users are advised to handle all film strips using lint-free cotton or nitrile darkroom gloves, avoid abrasive contact with display glass, and maintain originals in archival acid-free polyethylene sleeves. Under no circumstances shall the operators of this website be liable for physical damage resulting from improper user handling of vintage film materials.

5. Permissible Use and Embeddable Widgets

You are granted a non-exclusive, revocable license to utilize the Service for personal, educational, and commercial photography digitization workflows. Photography bloggers, educational institutions, and darkroom laboratories are permitted to embed our standalone widget via the official iframe snippet provided on our Embed Widget Page, provided that attribution links remain intact and unobstructed.
